Implementation in Final Stages
- The installation process is nearing completion, with all audio recordings finalized.
- The system is expected to be fully operational within a month.
- Once implemented, commuters will receive clear and timely announcements regarding upcoming stops.
Addressing Passenger Challenges
Public transport hubs in Pune, such as metro stations, railway stations, and the airport, have long offered automated announcements. However, PMPML buses lacked this facility, often leading to confusion and inconvenience, especially for:
- Visually impaired passengers relying on conductors or fellow commuters.
- Elderly commuters struggling to read bus route indicators.
- Disabled passengers needing clear information for hassle-free travel.
The new system aims to eliminate these challenges by providing real-time stop information and improving the overall commuting experience.
Commuter Reactions and Official Remarks
The move has been widely appreciated by passengers, especially those who have struggled without such a system for years.
Pratik Kulkarni, a frequent commuter, welcomed the initiative:
“This system was long overdue. Now, my visually impaired friends can rely on clear announcements rather than depending on others for stop details.”
Nitin Narvekar, PMPML’s Joint Managing Director, emphasized the necessity of the system:
“Passengers need loud and clear stop information while travelling. The installation is in its final stage, and all required audio recordings are complete. Within a month, the system will be fully functional, benefiting commuters significantly.”
