Nova Bus Wins Toronto Tender for 80 Electric Buses

Volvo Buses’ subsidiary, Nova Bus, has been awarded a major contract to supply 80 fully electric LFSe+ urban buses to The Regional Municipality of York, a district of Toronto. This victory marks an exciting step in the region’s journey toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The contract, which represents one of Nova Bus’s most significant electric bus orders in North America, highlights the company’s growing role in the electrification of public transit. Scheduled deliveries are set to begin in 2026, with all buses being manufactured at Nova Bus’s plant in Saint-Eustache, Quebec.

The LFSe+ buses, designed to improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact, are equipped with advanced features, including two charging options: an overhead pantograph system and a plug-in charging solution.

This versatility ensures that the buses are adaptable to existing infrastructure, making them a practical choice for transit systems looking to transition to electric vehicles.

With a modular battery design that allows for up to 564 kWh of onboard energy storage, the LFSe+ buses offer a reliable solution for urban transport routes, maximizing both range and energy efficiency.

The buses will help York Region meet its sustainability goals while providing commuters with cleaner, more reliable public transportation.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this tender as it not only showcases our expertise in electric bus manufacturing but also underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable public transit solutions,” said Paul Le Houillier, President of Nova Bus. “This contract further solidifies our position at the forefront of electrification in public transport.”

The new buses are expected to play a key role in the region’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. Nova Bus’s ongoing success in securing large electric bus orders—such as the 339 LFSe+ buses recently awarded to transit agencies in Quebec—further demonstrates the company’s leadership in providing eco-friendly solutions to urban transportation challenges.
