Shivneri Atal Setu buses Cut Mumbai-Pune Travel Time to 4 Hours

Starting February 20, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation will soon start operating its premium Shivneri Volvos and e-Shivneri buses on Atal Setu. Explore timing and online booking options of MSRTC’s newly launched Shivneri Atal Setu buses.

Mumbai, February 19: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a new bus route for its Shivneri Volvo and e-Shivneri bus service between Mumbai and Pune through the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), popularly known as Atal Setu.

The new Shivneri Atal Setu bus service will start from February 20 on a trial basis.

Notably, this new MSRTC bus route through the Atal Setu will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune by at least 1 hour.

Currently, Shivneri Mumbai-Pune buses take 5-6 hours to travel 155 kilometers, depending on the traffic density.

With the Shivneri Atal Setu buses, this travel time is anticipated to be reduced to approximately four hours in both directions.

Shivneri Mumbai-Pune Bus Route Via Atal Setu

MSRTC has announced two new routes for Shivneri Mumbai-Pune buses:

  1. Pune Station to Mantralaya (Nariman Point)
  2. Swargate to Dadar

The MSRTC will be plying Shivneri Volvo buses on the Pune to Mantralaya route and e-Shivneri electric buses on the Swargate to Dadar route.

Shivneri Atal Setu Bus Timing

The Shivneri Atal Setu bus from Pune Station to Mantralaya (Nariman Point) will depart at 6:30 AM, and the bus from Swargate (Pune) to Dadar will depart at 7 AM.

On the return journey, the Mantralaya bus will depart at 11 AM and the Dadar bus at 1 PM.

Ticket Prices

Kailash Patil, the MSRTC Divisional Commissioner, assured that ticket prices will remain the same.

He urged travelers between the two cities to make advance bookings on the MSRTC website or app and take advantage of the new routes.

Travelers interested in utilizing these buses for travel between the two cities can easily make reservations at any of the depots and bus stations of the MSRTC reservation department.

Atal Setu Mumbai, also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), is a 21.8-kilometer (13.5 mi) 6-lane elevated highway bridge that connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city.

It is the longest sea bridge in India and the world’s 12th-longest sea bridge.

The bridge begins in Sewri, South Mumbai, crosses Thane Creek north of Elephanta Island, and terminates at Chirle near Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka, Navi Mumbai.

The MTHL was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, 2024, and opened to the public on the following day.

The bridge has reduced travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 2 hours to just 22 minutes.
