Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to introduce a landmark urban tourism initiative—a refurbished open-top double-decker bus service in Kochi, starting July 13.

This service, managed by KSRTC’s Budget Tourism Cell, replicates successful models in Thiruvananthapuram and aims to diversify city transport offerings while boosting revenue.

KSRTC Double-Decker Bus Timings and Route Details

A single, 80‑seat non-AC double-decker has been refurbished with seating and interior upgrades and equipped for the city tours. Outfitted with onboard music systems, the bus will commence its 5 pm–8 pm trips daily from Ernakulam Boat Jetty. 

The route will cover key landmarks:

• Ernakulam Boat Jetty → Marine Drive
• Via Goshree bridges to Vypeen Kalamukku Junction
• Through High Court, MG Road, Thevara, Venduruthy Bridge, Naval Base, Thoppumpady walkway
• Return to Jetty by 8–8:30 pm

This is a pilot service. If demand proves strong, KSRTC will add more buses and extend tours to Fort Kochi. Online seat booking is planned. Ticket prices will be in the region of ₹200 per passenger.

Kochi has a long history with double-decker buses. It dates back to the late 1960s. The introduction of the new KSRTC double-decker bus service marks a nostalgic return to Kochi.

It is bringing back old memories while offering something fresh for tourists. It also marks a strategic shift, transforming idle fleet assets into revenue-generating tourist experiences.
