Inter Africa Bus Accident Updates: ZRP Identifies 5 Deceased
Seven killed and 22 injured in an Inter Africa bus accident on Zimbabwe‘s Harare-Bulawayo highway. The ZRP is investigating the cause of the crash, and five victims have been identified.
On Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, a devastating road traffic accident occurred along the Harare-Bulawayo highway, claiming the lives of seven people. The accident, which involved an Inter Africa bus and a stationary truck, took place at around 3:30 AM near the 330-kilometre peg on the busy route.
Casualties and Injuries
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the tragic incident, stating that seven individuals were killed when the Inter Africa bus crashed into the rear of the stationary truck.
While the number of injured victims is still being assessed, the ZRP has confirmed that 22 people were hurt in the accident. Of those, six have been treated and discharged, while the remaining 16 are receiving medical care at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

Identification of the Deceased Victims
The ZRP has identified five of the seven victims who died in the crash. These individuals were confirmed through positive identification by their next of kin. The names released are as follows:
- Mutanga Brian (Male, Bocha, Marange)
- Madubeko Manyise (54, Male, 4th Street, Bulawayo)
- Ncube Sinqobile (43, Female, Xanti village, Esigodini)
- Muchemwa Matienga (62, Male, Lasper Road, Harrisvale, Bulawayo)
- Mafukidze Edmen Collin (39, Male, Overspill, Epworth)
The bodies of the deceased victims were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Public Warning and Calls for Caution
In light of the tragedy, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned sternly against looting, particularly targeting haulage trucks involved in accidents. The ZRP emphasized that stealing goods from accident sites is a serious criminal offense, stressing the importance of upholding the law and respecting the affected parties.
Tafadzwa Goliath, president of the Passenger Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ), expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged drivers to be more cautious on the roads. He called for increased vigilance to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of all road users.
