Indore bus accident – Who’s fault is it?

Indore bus accident involving school bus near Rajiv Gandhi Sqaure

A tragic accident occurred in Indore on Monday, 12th February, involving a school bus and a chartered bus from AICTSL.

The school bus involved in the Indore bus accident was significantly damaged, and the bus helper sustained major injuries.

Fortunately, no children sustained any major injuries.

How did the Indore bus Accident Happen?

The Indore bus accident occurred at around 7:00 AM near Rajiv Gandhi Square in Indore when a Satya Sai Vidya Vihar School bus stopped at a bus stop to pick up students.

An AICTL chartered bus from Ratlam coming from behind collided forcefully with the stationary school bus.

The impact was so intense that the entire structure of the school bus was damaged. The impact also pushed the school bus to collide with a mini truck nearby.

Casualties of the Indore Bus Accident

The driver and helper of the school bus sustained major injuries and was promptly sent to Choithram Hospital for treatment.

A student and a female caretaker were also on the bus at the time of the accident. The student and the caretaker have been admitted to Choithram Hospital for treatment as well.

However, it is fortunate that no children suffered major injuries in the accident.

As per sources, the bus was on its way to pick up children to school, so there was just one kid on the bus.

None of the passengers on the chartered bus sustained any injuries during the incident.

Who is at fault?

The driver of the chartered bus Pankaj Giri stated that a motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of the bus, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, the bus veered to the left and collided with a stationary school bus.

Upon reviewing the video footage of the Indore bus accident it is clear that:

  1. The chartered bus was speeding
  2. The accident could have easily been avoided

Buses tend to overspeed in the early morning when roads are relatively empty. Despite the school bus stopping to pick up children, the chartered bus failed to slow down and ended up ramming into the stationary school bus.

It is evident from the video that the chartered bus collided with the school bus after it had been stationary for approximately 3 seconds.

This indicates that the AICTSL chartered bus had ample time to slow down, thereby potentially preventing the bus accident.

It all boiled down to disregard for basic safety and traffic laws. In this case, it resulted in an avoidable accident.

In this case, the failure to adhere to speed limits and maintain a safe distance between vehicles resulted in a tragic collision, highlighting the importance of responsible driving practices.
