In a significant push toward sustainable long-distance travel, Green Energy Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (GEMS), the electric mobility division of Universal Bus Services (UBS), has signed two major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to deploy 150 electric intercity coaches across South India.

MoU with Tata Motors for 100 Magna EV Intercity Coaches

On July 31, 2025, at the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 in Chennai, GEMS signed an MoU with Tata Motors for the procurement of 100 units of the Magna EV intercity coach.

The event was graced by Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, senior state officials, and leaders of the All Omni Bus Owners Association (AOBOA).

MoU with Electrigo for EV Bus Leasing Framework

On August 1, 2025, GEMS signed a second MoU with Electrigo, an electric bus leasing solutions provider. The deal creates a framework to lease 50 electric buses, with GEMS placing a purchase order for 10 units as the initial deployment tranche.

  • Leasing Partner: Electrigo
  • Leased Units: 50 (10 confirmed in first tranche)
  • Operational Control: GEMS to operate and maintain all leased buses

This flexible leasing model allows GEMS to expand rapidly while maintaining full compliance with regulatory and safety norms.

Electrigo’s end-to-end support model is expected to streamline GEMS’ rollout strategy across high-demand intercity routes.
