FlixBus India, a global travel-tech leader, celebrated its one-year anniversary with launch of its first electric bus route in India, reinforcing its commitment to green mobility and sustainable intercity transportation.
The Hyderabad-Vijayawada route, introduced in partnership with ETO Motors, marks an important step in FlixBus’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the adoption of electric buses in India.
The launch event, held at ITC Kakatiya, Hyderabad, was attended by Shri Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister of Transport and BC Welfare, Government of Telangana, Mr. Alexander Reck, Counsellor for Digital and Transport, German Embassy, New Delhi, Mr. Rajeev YSR, CEO – Thunder Plus and Group Chief Marketing Officer, ETO Group, and Mr. Surya Khurana, Managing Director, FlixBus India.
With this initiative, FlixBus will operate four electric buses on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route as part of a pilot project aimed at testing feasibility, efficiency, and passenger experience.
A two-week test phase will assess operational efficiency, battery performance, and ridership trends before full-scale operations begin later in February.
FlixBus India’s Managing Director Surya Khurana highlighted the significance of this milestone, adding:
“Sustainability is at the core of FlixBus’s global vision. Bringing electric buses to India aligns with our mission to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring efficient and comfortable intercity travel.”
As part of the project, charging stations equipped with 240 KW fast chargers will be set up to ensure seamless operations.
The electric bus fleet will also feature advanced safety systems, including GPS tracking, Dashcams, and ADAS technology, enhancing passenger safety and comfort.
