AMTS Catania, the Sicilian carrier, has placed an order for 42 Solaris electric buses in a significant move towards sustainable urban transport.
This substantial investment includes 32 units of the Solaris Urbino 12 electric model and 10 units of the Solaris Urbino 18 electric model, slated to commence passenger service in the bustling port city of Catania by 2024.
About the Buses
The forthcoming electric buses are set to feature Solaris High Energy batteries powering an electric central traction motor.
The Solaris Urbino 12 buses will be equipped with 350 kWh batteries, while the Solaris Urbino 18 units will boast 400 kWh batteries. Charging infrastructure will include pantograph chargers and standard plug-in connectors at the bus depot.
Consip S.p.A. Facilitated the Order
This latest procurement by AMTS Catania underscores their commitment to electrifying their fleet. The carrier leveraged a framework agreement established in 2022 with the Italian central purchasing authority, Consip S.p.A., which unites public transport entities across Italy.
When Will Solaris Deliver the Order?
The delivery schedule spans 2024-2025, with 11 additional Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses set to be in operation by year-end.
