Alexander Dennis Will Deliver 35 Enviro500EV Buses to Hong Kong’s public transport operator MTR Corporation by 2026.
In a significant move towards sustainable public transportation, Alexander Dennis, a prominent British electric bus manufacturer and subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has secured a competitive tender to deliver electric double decker buses in Hong Kong.
The company has been selected by Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Corporation to provide 35 battery electric Enviro500EV double decker buses.
MTR Corporation is a government-owned public transport operator and property developer in Hong Kong that operates the Mass Transit Railway. It currently operates a fleet of 172 buses, with a majority sourced from Alexander Dennis’ Enviro200, Enviro400, and Enviro500 double decker buses.
The newly ordered fleet of Alexander Dennis double decker buses is set to be delivered between 2025 and 2026.
These double decker buses in Hong Kong are expected to represent a significant stride in reducing the carbon footprint of the city’s public transportation system.
Designed in-house by Alexander Dennis’s engineering team, the Enviro500EV double decker bus is part of the manufacturer’s next generation of zero-emission buses.

Key features of the Enviro500EV double decker bus include a robust 472kWh battery system supplied by Impact Clean Power Technology.
This design allows for future upgrades to harness advances in battery technology without requiring structural modifications.
The heavy-duty Voith Electrical Drive System, with a peak output of 410kW and continuous output of 310kW, ensures the buses can navigate Hong Kong’s diverse topography effectively.
