Alexander Dennis Delivers Enviro500EV Double Decker Buses to Hong Kong’s CLP Power

Leading global bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis has delivered Enviro500EV double-decker buses to Hong Kong’s CLP Power. This marks a key milestone for both the operator and the OEM. CLP Power has launched the first of four next-generation double-decker buses.

CLP Power, which operates a staff transport fleet for commutes between its power stations, is replacing its older Euro IV diesel-powered Alexander Dennis buses with fully electric models.

This move is in line with the city’s roadmap to achieve zero vehicular emissions and carbon neutrality before 2050.

Designed for High-Demand, High-Gradient Duty Cycles

The Enviro500EV is purpose-built to handle the rigorous operational demands of Hong Kong’s urban and semi-urban environments. It features the Voith Electrical Drive System, a proven e-drive platform optimised for high-performance traction and energy efficiency on hilly terrain and stop-start traffic cycles.

Each bus is equipped with 472kWh batteries and are packaged in a way to avoid intrusion into passenger space—allowing a traditional saloon layout without compromising on capacity or comfort.

This gives operators the flexibility of fleet integration without needing route-specific reconfiguration.

The buses also come equipped with full LED lighting, enhanced driver visibility systems, and seat belt fastening detectors on all passenger seats, reflecting an increased focus on safety compliance in B2B staff transport services.

Expanding Market Presence in Asia’s Fleet Electrification Drive

With this delivery, CLP Power becomes the third operator in the city to adopt the Enviro500EV platform, after franchised operators KMB and Citybus. However, this deployment is significant as it represents Alexander Dennis’ first entry into the private fleet segment in the region.

According to Michael Pothan, Head of Commercial Finance (Asia Pacific) at Alexander Dennis, “The next-generation Enviro500EV is delivering strong value across public and private fleet operators. Its robust electric drivetrain, long battery life, and smart interior packaging make it an ideal choice for high-frequency, high-capacity duty cycles typical of Hong Kong.”

The delivery supports the government’s broader goals to electrify public and private transport fleets.

With more fleet operators evaluating electrification pathways, Alexander Dennis is positioning itself as an end-to-end supplier of integral electric double-deckers backed by regional support and technical reliability.
