The announcement was made by the President of MSRTC and State Minister Bharat Gogalwale during a press conference held in Nagpur on Wednesday.

These new MSRTC Lal-Pari buses will include 2,200 BS6, diesel buses purchased by the corporation, and 1,300 buses taken on wet lease from private operators. The new buses will start joining the fleet in January 2025.

MSRTC Bus Fleet Size (2025)

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the MSRTC boasted a fleet of 18,000 buses, with 15,500 in active service catering to approximately 65 lakh passengers each day.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors, the corporation was unable to buy new buses in recent years. As of December 2024, MSRTC’s fleet consists of 14,000 buses.

With the arrival of the new MSRTC buses, the fleet size will increase to 17,500 buses. This will help serve around 55 lakh daily commuters across Maharashtra.

New MSRTC Buses to Enhance Commuter Experience

In the recent past, passengers faced significant inconvenience due to the dwindling number of MSRTC buses. Moreover, the increasing number of aging buses in the current fleet led to frequent breakdowns and long wait times.

The introduction of these new MSRTC Lal-Pari buses will reduce such issues and provide commuters with a more reliable and comfortable travel experience.

Development of Bus Stations Across Maharashtra

In addition to the new MSRTC Lal-Pari buses, the state government plans to develop bus stations across Maharashtra.

Some stations will be upgraded with government funds, while others will be developed through public-private partnerships.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation had previously started the concretization of 183 bus stations under the leadership of former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This project is gaining momentum, with further upgrades planned for the future.
