In Bengaluru, a surprising incident unfolded when a newly installed bus stop worth Rs 10 lakh vanished within a week.
The bus stand stolen in Bengaluru was managed by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and was located on Cunningham Road.
The bus stop, which included stainless steel structures with chairs, roofs, and poles, was situated behind the Bengaluru city police commissioner’s office, roughly 1 km from Vidhana Soudha.
Though set up on August 21, the disappearance was only noted on August 28. Strangely, the matter was reported to the police over a month later, on September 30.
N Ravi Reddy, the associate vice-president of the construction company responsible for the bus shelters, filed a complaint with High Grounds police.
In his complaint, Reddy mentioned that upon discovering the absence, they contacted Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, who denied any involvement or knowledge of the incident.
Consequently, a case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, and the police are examining nearby CCTV footage to identify the culprits.

In March 2023, an age-old bus stand in HRBR Layout, which had stood for three decades, vanished overnight.
According to a media report, the bus stand in Kalyan Nagar was a donation from the Lions Club back in 1990. Later it was discovered that it was swiftly taken down to pave the way for a new commercial establishment.
In May 2015, a bus stop near Horizon School vanished completely overnight. Every single element of the bus stand, from the pillars and chairs to the awning and ceiling, was removed.
All that remained were the sawed-down ends of the metal pillars at the Doopanahalli bus stop near Horizon School. Reports suggest that robust metal cutters were employed in severing the beams.
In 2014, a bus stop that had stood for two decades disappeared from BEML Layout III Stage in Rajarajeshwarinagar.
The civic body of Bengaluru, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), claimed that the bus stand stolen in Bengaluru was targeted for its steel. They went on to file a police complaint regarding the theft.
BBMP estimated the value of the bus stand at Rs 45,000.
