Blackbuck EV Unveils ELON 3X, India’s First 15-Metre Electric Sleeper Coach

Blackbuck EV has unveiled the ELON 3X, a 15-metre multi-axle electric sleeper coach designed for long-distance intercity operations. The company describes it as India’s first electric sleeper coach in this configuration. Featuring 42 sleeper berths and battery options of up to 565 kWh, the coach marks Blackbuck EV‘s entry into the premium long-distance electric bus segment.

Developed and engineered in India, the ELON 3X is built on the company’s Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture. Blackbuck EV says the platform was developed specifically for electric mobility, not adapted from a conventional diesel vehicle.

ELON 3X Offers 42 Sleeper Berths and 565 kWh Battery Option

The three-axle coach features 42 sleeper berths, along with dedicated driver and co-driver accommodation. It also offers more than 9 cubic metres of luggage space, addressing the storage requirements of intercity operators.

The ELON 3X will be available with two battery configurations: 425 kWh and 565 kWh. The company has not yet announced the vehicle’s certified range or charging specifications.

The suspension package includes independent suspension, active tag-axle steering and Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS). Safety equipment includes Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and disc brakes on all wheels.

Four Years of Development and Road Testing

Blackbuck EV says the ELON 3X underwent four years of development, including two years of real-world road testing. The programme focused on refining vehicle handling, stability, ride comfort, system integration and durability.

Reservations Open, Production Planned for 2027

Blackbuck EV has opened reservations for the ELON 3X, with commercial production targeted for mid-2027. The company is currently engaging with prospective intercity transport operators.

The launch adds another product to India’s developing electric intercity coach segment. The ELON 3X’s commercial prospects will depend on its real-world range, charging requirements, passenger capacity and operating economics once production and deployments begin.
