Sanatan Bus Body Builders Expands Premium Mobility Portfolio With Sunliner and HEXA

India’s bus body building industry is moving towards a more product-driven market. Passenger comfort, premium interiors, safety systems and regulatory compliance are increasingly influencing buying decisions alongside basic vehicle functionality.
For bus body manufacturers, this is creating a new opportunity and a new challenge. Operators across school, staff, tourist and intercity transportation are looking for products that can combine operational practicality with a better passenger experience.
Against this backdrop, Sanatan Bus Body Builders has expanded its product portfolio with two new platforms: the Sunliner wide-body bus and the HEXA premium 12-metre coach.
The two products target different applications but reflect a common direction in Sanatan’s product strategy, combining stronger body engineering, improved passenger comfort, modern design and compliance-focused manufacturing.
Sunliner Brings a Wider Bus Platform
The Sunliner has been developed as a wide-body bus platform for school, staff and tourist transportation applications.
The central idea behind the platform is straightforward: provide more usable passenger space while retaining the practicality required by fleet operators.
According to Sanatan, the Sunliner is 150 mm wider than conventional bus platforms in this category. While a typical bus measures around 2,200 mm in width, the Sunliner extends this to 2,350 mm.
That additional width allows the body layout to be configured around greater passenger space and seating comfort.
The company states that the seating dimensions increase from 1,000 mm x 700 mm to 1,100 mm x 800 mm. For school and staff transport operators, where passengers may spend significant amounts of time travelling each day, such changes can have a direct impact on cabin comfort and movement.
The wider body also provides greater flexibility in cabin layout, including passenger movement and gangway space.
Safety and Structural Engineering
Comfort is only one part of the Sunliner proposition.
Sanatan has equipped the platform with anti-skid flooring, emergency exits, emergency button systems, fire alarm and protection systems, along with a roll-over-compliant body construction.
The company has also highlighted heavy-duty structural engineering, corrosion-resistant materials and welded construction as important elements of the body.
Another significant aspect of the Sunliner is its AIS-153 approval. For bus body manufacturers, AIS-153 has become increasingly important as the Indian industry moves towards more structured safety and compliance requirements. Sanatan’s emphasis on certification places the Sunliner within this broader shift towards regulation-ready bus body manufacturing.
The company is also positioning the wider platform as a relatively accessible upgrade for operators. Its brochure states that the additional cost for moving to the wider Sunliner platform is ₹35,000.
For fleet owners, the proposition is aimed at adding passenger space and differentiation without requiring a major increase in vehicle investment.
HEXA Targets the Premium Coach Market
If the Sunliner is focused on everyday passenger transportation, HEXA takes Sanatan into a different part of the market.
The HEXA is a 12-metre premium coach developed for operators looking for stronger road presence, improved passenger comfort and a more contemporary onboard environment.
The coach will be available in both 3×2 and 2×2 seating configurations, with HHR and pushback seating options depending on operator requirements.
Its exterior design marks a clear shift towards a more premium visual identity.
The HEXA features a new front fascia with projector headlamps, giving the coach a more distinctive appearance while also supporting improved visibility during night-time operations.
Inside, the focus moves towards cabin aesthetics and passenger experience.
The coach features a full-ABS interior finish with hidden ambient lighting, creating a cleaner and more contemporary cabin design. Seating layouts are designed around passenger comfort, while optional three-point seat belts add another safety feature for operators seeking enhanced passenger protection.
Technology Moves Into the Cabin
The HEXA also brings greater emphasis on onboard technology.
An Android-based infotainment system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while an integrated reverse camera system adds functionality for the driver and improves visibility during manoeuvring.
The driver environment has received attention as well.
The cockpit features an ergonomic design with premium ABS finishing and dedicated AC louvers aimed at improving driver comfort during long-distance operations.
These features point to a broader change in the way premium buses are being developed. Passenger experience is increasingly extending beyond seating and interior appearance to include connectivity, entertainment, climate comfort, safety and driver ergonomics.

The Sunliner is therefore aimed more towards everyday passenger movement, where space, durability, safety and practicality are important considerations.
HEXA, meanwhile, takes the proposition into the premium coach segment, where design, comfort, technology and the overall passenger experience become more prominent.
Two Products, One Larger Strategy
The Sunliner and HEXA occupy different parts of the bus market, but together they demonstrate how Sanatan Bus Body Builders is expanding beyond a conventional body-building approach.
The Sunliner is aimed at school, staff and tourist applications where space, durability, safety and operating practicality remain important.
HEXA, meanwhile, targets operators looking to offer a more premium intercity coach experience through design, comfort and technology.
That wider product approach is becoming increasingly relevant as India’s bus industry evolves.
Operators are becoming more conscious of passenger expectations, while safety regulations are pushing manufacturers towards stronger engineering and documented compliance. At the same time, premium intercity travel is creating demand for buses that offer a more differentiated experience.
For bus body builders, the result is a market where manufacturing capability alone is no longer enough. Product development, engineering, safety compliance, interior design and an understanding of specific operator requirements are becoming increasingly important.
Sanatan’s latest products reflect that transition.
The Sunliner focuses on creating more space within everyday passenger transport, while HEXA takes the company’s product proposition into the premium coach segment.
Together, they represent a broader attempt to build a portfolio that can address multiple passenger mobility applications while responding to the industry’s shift towards safer, more comfortable and more differentiated buses.
Building for the Next Phase of Bus Mobility
Sanatan Bus Body Builders’ latest product developments come at a time when India’s bus industry is becoming increasingly structured and technology-driven.
From AIS-153 compliance to premium passenger interiors, the expectations placed on bus body manufacturers are changing. Operators want products that can deliver reliability in daily service while also meeting the expectations of increasingly demanding passengers.
The Sunliner and HEXA are Sanatan’s response to two sides of that market.
The Sunliner focuses on creating a wider and more spacious platform for everyday passenger transport, while HEXA takes the company into premium coach development through design, comfort and technology.
For Sanatan, the two products also represent a broader evolution in how it approaches product development.
“With the Sunliner, our focus was to improve passenger comfort and usable cabin space in everyday transportation segments. We believe operators today are looking for safer, wider, and more practical mobility solutions, and the Sunliner has been developed keeping these evolving expectations in mind.”
Shiv Narayan Sharma, Director, Sanatan Bus Body Builders Pvt. Ltd.
The significance of the two launches goes beyond the individual products. They reflect a bus body manufacturing industry that is gradually moving from standardised fabrication towards differentiated platforms built around specific passenger, operator and regulatory requirements.
For Sanatan Bus Body Builders, Sunliner and HEXA mark another step in that evolution — one focused on widening its product portfolio while building buses around the changing expectations of India’s passenger mobility market.
