Vadodara is gearing up for a major green upgrade as its long-anticipated electric bus service prepares to take off.

The city expects to receive its initial fleet of 42 buses by the end of this month, marking a significant step toward modernizing local public transit.

Charging stations at Gotri and Sayajigunj are almost ready, while a third is planned at Makarpura.

The Sayajigunj facility will replace the existing bus stand opposite the railway station and double as a central charging hub.

Under the PMe-Bus Sewa scheme, the Centre has approved 250 electric buses for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).

The tender for 100 buses is complete, with deliveries set to begin in phases, and more buses expected within three months of the first lot.

The buses will be operated under a cost-sharing model of Rs 65 per km-Rs 30 from the Centre, Rs 22 from the state, and Rs 13 borne by VMC, which plans to recover its share through advertisements and rentals.
