Delhi to Begin ₹34 Crore Upgrade of Three Major ISBTs Next Month

The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) will begin a comprehensive upgrade of Delhi’s three major interstate bus terminals next month, with officials aiming to complete the project within six months.
The ₹34 crore revamp will cover Kashmere Gate ISBT, Anand Vihar ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT — three of the busiest transport hubs in the national capital.
The project was first announced in May 2025 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and is part of the Delhi government’s larger plan to transform ISBTs into integrated, world-class transit hubs with airport-like infrastructure.
What the ₹34 Crore Upgrade Includes
According to officials, the redevelopment will focus on strengthening infrastructure while improving passenger convenience and operational efficiency.
Key components include:
- Civil, electrical and electromechanical repairs
- Installation of LED display boards with real-time bus arrival and departure information
- RFID-based boom barriers for automated entry monitoring
- Upgrades to surveillance and security systems
- Modern passenger information systems
Airport-Style Passenger Amenities
As part of the broader redevelopment roadmap, several passenger-friendly facilities will be introduced, including:
- Escalators and travelators (moving walkways) to ease movement inside terminals
- Automated ticketing machines and digital information systems
- Improved waiting lounges and entertainment areas
- Food courts, cloakrooms, baby feeding and changing rooms
- Expanded passenger concourses and departure zones
Mechanised housekeeping and sanitation upgrades will also be implemented to maintain higher cleanliness standards.

Commercial Development to Boost Revenue
A significant portion of ISBT land will be developed into integrated commercial hubs featuring:
- Shopping complexes
- Cafes and food outlets
- Budget hotels
- Offices and student housing
Focus on Multimodal Integration
The redevelopment is aligned with Delhi’s broader multimodal transport strategy. The upgraded ISBTs will offer seamless connectivity with:
- Metro stations
- Railway stations
- The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)
Elevated concourses, pedestrian-friendly access routes and vehicle-free zones are planned to reduce congestion within terminal premises. Authorities will also coordinate with traffic police to improve traffic circulation outside the ISBTs and prevent unregulated roadside parking.
