A deadly road accident unfolded in the early hours near Rangapur village in Parigi Mandal, Vikarabad district, Telangana, when a private bus transporting wedding guests rammed into a stationary truck. The Telangana bus accident today left four people dead on the spot and injured more than 20, with several in critical condition.

Initial findings suggest that the bus, which was carrying over 60 passengers, collided with the parked truck due to poor visibility and a lack of reflective markings on the truck. The collision occurred at high speed, highlighting serious safety lapses both in visibility and roadside parking norms.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash.

Parked Trucks Are Turning Indian Highways into Death Traps

Unfortunately, the bus accident in Telangana isn’t an isolated case. While speeding and fatigue are often blamed for road mishaps, one underreported but deadly cause of highway accidents, especially bus crashes, is illegally or poorly parked heavy vehicles.

Across India, there has been a disturbing trend of fatal road accidents involving vehicles that are stationary, unmarked, or poorly lit, particularly during low-visibility hours.

Trucks and lorries are frequently parked on the side of the road during early morning hours, without hazard lights, reflective strips, or cones, making them practically invisible in low-light conditions. This is a recurring pattern in many tragic incidents, including the Vikarabad bus accident today.

In many cases, the lack of basic safety measures like rear reflectors or hazard triangles has directly contributed to fatal collisions. Large buses traveling at highway speeds cannot react in time when a parked truck suddenly appears in the dark, leading to deadly outcomes.

Authorities need to take immediate action by launching enforcement drives and awareness campaigns aimed at truck drivers and logistics operators. Making reflective strips, functioning taillights, and warning triangles mandatory and enforceable could drastically reduce such preventable tragedies.

Moreover, dedicated lay-bys or parking zones for heavy vehicles must be developed along highways to discourage random roadside stops.
