UP Budget Allocates ₹400 Crore for E-Buses to Strengthen Public Transport

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant push towards strengthening and modernising public transport infrastructure in the state through its 2026–27 budget.
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh described the budgetary allocation for the Transport Department as “historic,” emphasising that it will accelerate the transition towards safe, accessible, and environmentally sustainable mobility solutions.
The budget earmarks ₹400 crore for the procurement of electric buses aimed at expanding the state’s public transport fleet while reducing pollution levels.
Additionally, ₹150 crore has been allocated for the development and upgradation of modern bus terminals across Uttar Pradesh.

A key highlight of the budget is the state’s renewed focus on electric mobility.
The ₹400 crore allocation will support the purchase of new e-buses, which are expected to improve passenger comfort while contributing to lower emissions in urban centres.
According to the Transport Minister, the introduction of e-buses will not only enhance commuter convenience but also play a critical role in improving air quality.
The move aligns with the state government’s broader green transport policy and long-term sustainability goals.
Officials have also been directed to ensure that project implementation remains timely and maintains high-quality standards, signalling the government’s focus on operational efficiency alongside infrastructure expansion.
Modern Bus Stands to Improve Passenger Experience
The state government has allocated ₹150 crore to develop modern bus stands equipped with improved passenger amenities and technology-driven infrastructure.
The upgraded facilities are expected to include digital passenger information systems, enhanced waiting areas, and improved sanitation facilities.
These modernised bus terminals aim to create a more passenger-friendly travel ecosystem while supporting better fleet management and operational efficiency across Uttar Pradesh’s road transport network.
Investment in Charging Infrastructure and Road Safety
To support the growing electric vehicle ecosystem, the government has allocated ₹50 crore for establishing EV charging stations at bus terminals.
This investment is expected to strengthen operational reliability for electric buses and encourage wider EV adoption.
Another ₹50 crore has been earmarked under the “Chief Minister’s Road Safety Vision Scheme.”
The scheme will focus on accident prevention initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and strengthening emergency response systems to improve overall road safety standards in the state.
