Solaris Bags Largest Order of 130 Hydrogen Buses in Europe
Italian cities Bologna and Ferrara have ordered 130 Urbino buses from Solaris, marking the largest order of hydrogen buses in Europe. The contract also allows for the potential inclusion of 140 more vehicles.
Bolechowo, September 11, 2023: The city of Bologna’s public transport operator, TPER, is set to make a significant stride towards sustainable urban transportation with an order of 130 hydrogen buses from Solaris.
This landmark acquisition includes 127 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses for TPER Bologna and an additional three units for TPER Ferrara.
Moreover, TPER retains the option to expand the order with an additional 140 vehicles.
The Italian cities Bologna and Ferrara are at the forefront of hydrogen fuel cell buses in Europe. Both cities are spearheading the transition towards fully zero-emission urban public transport by 2030.
Opting for Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, renowned for their efficiency, the cities’ ambitious goal comes one step closer to fruition.
The contract also allows for the potential inclusion of 140 more vehicles.
Each bus will be equipped with an advanced hydrogen system, meeting the highest safety standards.
The 70 kW fuel cell will draw hydrogen from five composite tanks situated on the bus roof, with a full tank capacity of 37.5 kg, providing a range of approximately 350 km.
Inhabitants of Bologna and Ferrara can anticipate experiencing the benefits of the Urbino 12 hydrogen buses as early as 2024, with an initial delivery of 37 units.
The remainder of the buses will arrive between 2025 and 2026.
