Prasanna Purple Launches Private Electric Bus Service Between Pune and Mumbai
Prasanna Purple deploys SWITCH Mobility’s EiV12 electric coaches on the Mumbai–Pune route, signalling a growing confidence among private operators in electric mobility.

Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, one of India’s largest bus operators, has launched SWITCH Mobility’s EiV12 coaches on the Mumbai–Pune route, marking a fresh phase in its intercity electric bus operations.
The first batch of 10 buses was flagged off in Pune on April 10, 2026, in the presence of Madhuri Misal, Minister of State, Government of Maharashtra. The total order stands at 25 units, with the remaining deliveries scheduled over the year.
The deployment is being carried out in partnership with Vertelo.
Key Highlights:
- Prasanna Purple deploys 10 electric buses on Mumbai–Pune route
- Total order of 25 SWITCH EiV12 intercity electric coaches
- Buses offer 300+ km range with fast-charging capability
- Reflects growing private operator confidence in electric mobility
Building on an Early Lead in Intercity Electric Mobility
While this marks a new milestone, Prasanna Purple is not new to electric intercity operations. In March 2020, Prasanna Purple introduced intercity electric buses between Pune and Mumbai. The 12-metre, 2×2 luxury electric coach, sourced from Mozev, a brand of Mytrah Mobility, was deployed with a scheduled frequency of two trips per day.
That early move positioned the company among the first private operators to experiment with electric mobility beyond city limits.
The latest deployment builds on that foundation, reflecting a more structured and scaled approach to electric intercity travel.

SWITCH MOBILITY EiV12 Platform Designed for Intercity Operations
The 12-meter EiV12 electric coach from SWITCH Mobility is developed for long-distance and high-frequency intercity routes, with a focus on performance, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
Key features include:
- 45 pushback seats
- Range of over 300 km per charge
- Fast-charging capability for improved turnaround time
- SWITCH iON connected technology for real-time fleet monitoring and performance tracking
These features make the EiV12 platform well-suited for intercity operations, where reliability, efficiency, and service consistency are critical for operators.

Partnership-Led Deployment Model
The deployment is being executed in collaboration with Vertelo, underlining the importance of ecosystem partnerships in enabling electric mobility adoption.
Such partnerships are increasingly becoming central to addressing financing, infrastructure, and operational challenges associated with scaling electric bus fleets.

What This Means for India’s Intercity Electric Bus Segment
Prasanna Purple’s re-entry into intercity electric bus operations signals a positive shift for the industry. While the government continues to push bus electrification, participation from private operators, especially in the intercity segment, has remained limited.
In an earlier interaction with Coach Builders India, LeafyBus CEO Rohan Dewan highlighted the importance of private operators entering the electric intercity segment, while also pointing to key challenges around infrastructure, financing, and operational viability. He noted that these barriers would need to ease for adoption to scale.
Prasanna Purple’s move aligns closely with that outlook. It indicates that some of these constraints are beginning to ease and reflects growing confidence among private bus operators in the viability of electric intercity operations.
As more such deployments come into play, they are likely to encourage other private operators to evaluate and transition toward electric buses, accelerating adoption in the intercity segment.
