Bus Services Between Karnataka and Maharashtra Suspended After Attacks on Buses and Crew

Bus services between Karnataka and Maharashtra have been suspended due to recent attacks on buses and their staff, according to a senior official’s statement on Tuesday.
This action comes amidst escalating tensions in Belagavi, a region along the border.
The senior officer from the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) confirmed, “We suspended bus services to Maharashtra as of yesterday.
Likewise, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has stopped sending buses to Karnataka.”
The move follows rising unrest in Belagavi, which began over a language dispute. Tensions flared when a group allegedly assaulted the driver and conductor of a KSRTC bus for not speaking Marathi.
The incident took a further turn when the buses from both states were damaged, and their drivers were attacked.
In response to the situation, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), led by Narayana Gowda, has called for a protest march titled “Belagavi Chalo” on Tuesday, with plans to stage a rally and public meeting in the area.
While Karnataka ministers have urged for peace and calm, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has criticized the Maharashtra government for failing to act against those responsible for attacking KSRTC buses.
The suspension of bus services between Karnataka and Maharashtra underscores the growing tensions surrounding this ongoing issue.
