Kerala launches 143 new KSRTC buses with AI-supported operations to modernise public transport.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has inducted 143 brand-new buses equipped with advanced technology, marking a major milestone in its ongoing facelift program. The launch, held in Thiruvananthapuram on August 22, 2025, was inaugurated by Kerala Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, who emphasised the government’s commitment to delivering world-class public transport for the state’s commuters.
Focus on Comfort, Connectivity, and Modernisation
According to the Transport Minister, the new KSRTC buses will be deployed on inter-state, inter-district, and long-distance routes, including direct services from Thiruvananthapuram to Cochin, Kozhikode, and Thrissur.
- Enhanced Passenger Experience: The buses are equipped with modern facilities to improve travel comfort.
- Digital Integration: Operations are now supported by AI-based software, streamlining scheduling, ticketing, and workforce management.
- Highway Readiness: With new highways under development, KSRTC aims to connect key urban hubs efficiently.
AI-Supported Operations for the First Time in India
Ganesh Kumar highlighted that Kerala is the first state in India to integrate AI-supported operational software for its transport corporation. The system, developed using five years of ticketing and duty pattern data, will optimise bus scheduling and worker efficiency.
He also announced new digital tools including:
- A mobile app for mock driving tests
- A private bus concession app for seamless service access
- Regular examinations for motor vehicle department officers and driving instructors to improve professional knowledge and service delivery

A New Era for KSRTC
The new buses, designed under the guidance of Minister Ganesh Kumar, with external styling contributions from his son and a friend, symbolise the blending of modern engineering and a personal touch.
The Minister stressed that this is just the beginning of KSRTC’s modernisation, with a long-term vision of total digitalisation, improved operational efficiency, and passenger-first services.
