Mangaluru has received its first electric bus manufactured by Neuton Auto, marking a new development in the city’s transition toward cleaner urban mobility.

The 9-metre fully air-conditioned electric bus recently arrived from Pune and is expected to begin operations soon. According to the driver, the vehicle was transported on a trailer from Pune to Mangaluru.

The bus has a seating capacity of 37 passengers and is equipped with CCTV cameras for passenger safety and onboard monitoring.

It is designed for intra-city operations and represents the first Neuton electric bus to enter service in Mangaluru.

Unlike government-run electric bus deployments seen in several cities, this bus has been procured by a private operator who runs services on a local route.

Also, the vehicle is privately owned and not part of a state transport undertaking fleet.

Company representatives are expected to provide driver training before the bus is officially rolled out for commercial operations.

Although there is no official confirmation of the induction of more electric buses in Mangaluru, the private operator is believed to operate a fleet of 20–25 buses.

The arrival of the Neuton electric bus signals growing interest among private operators in adopting electric mobility solutions.

With features such as full air-conditioning, CCTV surveillance, and a compact 9-metre configuration suited for city roads, the bus adds to the gradual expansion of electric public transport in Karnataka’s coastal city.

The electric bus will be operated by Ganesh Prasad Travels on Route Number 27, running between Mangaladevi and State Bank. The bus is owned by Ganesh Prasad, marking a significant milestone in the city’s private transport sector.

The official launch date of the bus service is yet to be announced.
