Kurla Bus Crash: BEST Implements Mandatory Training for E-Bus Drivers

Kurla Bus Accident: Brake Failure or System Meltdown?

In response to the Kurla bus crash, which resulted in nine fatalities and 40 injuries last December, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has introduced a mandatory one-month training program for all e-bus drivers. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and prevent similar accidents in the future.

The training, which is now underway at the Dindoshi training centre, includes both theoretical classes and hands-on experience using a fully electric 12-metre-long wet lease bus. The program is designed to equip drivers with better handling skills and a deeper understanding of passenger safety protocols.

  • A contract for 2,100 electric AC buses and 2,500 additional electric buses awarded to a company.
  • Induction of nearly 100 new e-buses in the coming months.
  • Possible deployment of some e-buses on the Mumbai Coastal Road.
