JSW Greentech, the commercial vehicle arm of JSW Green Mobility, has achieved a critical regulatory milestone by securing the CMVR Type Approval Certificate from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).

The ARAI certification arrives as JSW Green Mobility structures its operations into three distinct pillars: JSW Greentech for commercial vehicles, JSW Auto for passenger vehicles, and JSW AutoComp for specialized parts.

This mandatory certification for homologation confirms that JSW’s inaugural electric bus meets all national safety, structural, and performance standards.

With this approval, the Sajjan Jindal-led group is officially cleared for the commercial production and sale of its zero-emission heavy vehicles on Indian roads.

The “51+D” configuration signifies a seating layout optimized for 51 passengers plus the driver, making it a versatile choice for both dense urban routes and intercity travel.

Designed to serve State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and private fleet operators, the bus integrates advanced electric drivetrains and high-efficiency battery systems.

Production of the JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX will be centered at a new, state-of-the-art greenfield facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra.

This facility is a cornerstone of JSW’s “Green Mobility” strategy, boasting an impressive annual production capacity of 10,000 electric buses and 5,000 electric trucks.

By establishing a local manufacturing hub, JSW aims to capitalize on the increasing number of government tenders.

While the commercial division is moving ahead with its localized bus production, JSW’s passenger vehicle ambitions face a different set of challenges.

The company’s planned debut in the car market involves collaborations with Chinese manufacturers, which currently face delays due to India’s stringent 2020 quality control regulations.

JSW has indicated that the timeline for its first car launch depends heavily on the speed of government licenses for imported components.
