East Godavari district is set to strengthen its public transport network by inducting 100 electric buses, as part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s broader push for sustainable, low-emission mobility.

Of the total sanctioned fleet, 50 electric buses will be rolled out this year, district collector in-charge Megha Swaroop announced during Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.

The announcement highlights the state government’s focus on reducing vehicular pollution while improving access to modern public transport services across urban and semi-urban regions.

The electric buses are expected to operate on key routes within the district, enhancing connectivity and offering commuters a cleaner alternative to conventional diesel-powered buses.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said the introduction of electric buses aligns with the government’s commitment to environmentally responsible development and citizen-centric mobility solutions.

The remaining 50 buses are expected to be introduced in subsequent phases, subject to operational readiness and infrastructure availability.

The electric bus rollout forms part of a wider set of developmental initiatives highlighted during the Republic Day programme across the five Godavari districts.

Under the Stree Shakti free bus travel scheme, around 1.30 lakh women in the district have benefited so far, underlining the growing reliance on public transport services.

The planned induction of electric buses in East Godavari is expected to complement these broader development efforts, positioning the district as a key participant in Andhra Pradesh’s transition towards cleaner, technology-driven public transport solutions.
